The Self-Selection Pilot program began prior to the 2023-2024 competitive season, where
several schools came together to resolve some recurring problems they experienced in previous competitive seasons. Their goal was to create a system in which there would be marquee and competitive matches every week, removing the potential for lopsided games, advanced and unique competition scheduling, where schools would not need to wait until registration closed the week prior to know their opponents and could also determine different competition times/days, as well as elevated marketing opportunities due to selected conference opponents.
They all came together and opted-in to compete in their very own self-selected conference.
The pilot program ran throughout the 2023-2024 competitive season, and was re-approved for the 2024-2025 competitive season. Self-select conferences function as any other NACE Varsity Premier conference, where the top team qualifies for the playoffs, and the 2nd and 3rd seeds qualify for the Last Chance Qualifier.
